In the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the number of Ebola cases rose by 72 within 24 hours to a total of 782, while the aid organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warned of growing gaps in surveillance and contact tracing.
The Congolese health authorities reported a sustained sharp increase in Ebola cases in the northeast of the country on Monday. According to the Ministry of Information, the number of confirmed deaths rose by 32 over the same period to 181. The mortality rate stands at 23.1 percent, according to the figures. According to the ministry, 359 patients are currently being treated in hospitals and isolation units.
