The English national football team won its final World Cup warm-up match against Costa Rica at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida, 3-0 (1-0) on Thursday evening (local time).

The match, which served as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming World Cup, kicked off with a significant delay. A severe thunderstorm with heavy rain and lightning strikes had raged over the stadium. "Vor dem Anpfiff waren auf Videos und Fotos aus dem Inter&Co Stadium in den sozialen Netzwerken starke Regenfälle und Blitze zu sehen," reports stated. During the game, however, the sun came out. After the storm front had passed, the match could be kicked off.

On the pitch, the team coached by Thomas Tuchel looked dominant from the start. In the 9th minute, Declan Rice gave the Three Lions the lead. The halftime lead was deserved, even though Tuchel's team was the far superior side and created several chances.
