Brussels, June 2, 2026
Representatives of EU member states and members of parliament continued negotiations in Brussels on Tuesday at 1:00 PM on the reform of passenger rights, which has been blocked for about 13 years.
What is under debate?
The focus of the discussions is on two central questions: from what delay passengers should be entitled to compensation at all, and how high the payout amounts will be in the future. The currently applicable rules already provide for a flat-rate compensation starting from a delay of three hours – tiered according to flight distance between 250 and 600 euros.
The negotiation round on Tuesday is part of a stalled dossier. According to information from Brussels, the reform of passenger rights has been stagnating for about 13 years. Several attempts to adapt the regulations to the reality of modern air traffic have so far failed due to differing positions between Parliament and the Council.
