The European Parliament voted on Tuesday in Strasbourg with a broad majority in favor of a reform of EU air passenger rights, which provides, among other things, for free seats for children next to their parents and more transparent prices for hand luggage.

The vote took place on Tuesday at noon in Strasbourg. As the European Parliament announced, a broad majority voted in favor of the reform, "which had been negotiated between the EU member states and the Parliament." This sets in motion the package for modernizing European air passenger rights.

Stricter Information Obligations in the Event of Delays

The core of the new provision is the obligation of airlines to inform travelers more quickly in the event of a delay about their rights. "In the event of a delay, airlines must inform travelers within four days of their right to compensation," according to the description of the project. This is intended to simplify the enforcement of compensation claims, which has often been perceived as confusing to date.
