A Eurowings aircraft travelling from Cologne-Bonn to Palma de Mallorca diverted to Paris Charles de Gaulle and landed on Saturday after the crew decided to abort the flight for safety reasons.

The Eurowings service, which had been scheduled to take passengers from Cologne-Bonn to Mallorca as an evening flight, touched down at Paris Charles de Gaulle instead of continuing over France towards the Balearic island. According to RTL, the carrier confirmed the diversion shortly after the aircraft was on the ground in the French capital.

In a statement reported by German media, the airline stressed that the decision to land away from the planned destination was made by the flight crew. "Sicherheit hat oberste Priorität, deshalb haben sich die Piloten zu der außerplanmäßigen Landung entschieden." The carrier framed the move as a precautionary step taken before any further risk could develop.
