Fatal fall on the Goassteige: Missing man from Graz found dead

The body was identified during the night. The relatives were informed by police and received psychological support. Mountain rescuers and alpine emergency personnel secured the accident site before the body was transported away.

The Leoben Public Prosecutor's Office has requested an initial investigation report. Should the suspicion of a natural or self-inflicted fall be confirmed, the proceedings would be dropped according to routine agency practice. Additional forensic expert reports are pending.

In the region, the incident is a topic of conversation among hikers and locals. Hut staff pointed out that the Goassteige requires particular caution in fading daylight and changeable weather. Mountain guides advise setting out early and realistically assessing one's own capabilities.

The official investigation is being conducted jointly by the alpine police and the public prosecutor's office. Until the investigations are concluded, the authorities ask that speculation about the cause of the accident be avoided. An official final report is expected once the forensic examinations are completed.

The funeral of the deceased is being prepared in consultation with the relatives. According to hut staff, a memorial event at the Admonter Haus is not planned; however, condolence books will be made available. The family requested via the police that their privacy be respected.
