A 56-year-old German suffered a fatal accident on the Hoher Ifen in the Kleinwalsertal during his ascent after he tripped for reasons still unknown and fell approximately 200 meters to his death.
Background to the Accident
The man was traveling on Thursday in the area of the Hoher Ifen, a 2,230-meter-high mountain in the Allgäu Alps on the border between Vorarlberg in Austria and Bavaria. According to current findings, the 56-year-old tripped for reasons that have not yet been clarified during the ascent and lost his footing.
The fall carried the mountaineer roughly 200 meters downward. Mountain rescue teams were alerted and deployed to the scene. However, all help came too late for the man: he could only be recovered dead, as the operation command reported.
