Fatal Mountain Accident in the Kleinwalsertal: 56-Year-Old German Falls 200 Meters from the Hoher Ifen

Following the fatal fall, the responsible alpine police were brought in. They have opened the investigation and will reconstruct the course of the accident. An expert is to clarify whether the hiker may have strayed from the route or whether technical failure of equipment comes into consideration.

The body of the victim was handed over to the next of kin after recovery. The man's identity was confirmed by the authorities; further personal details were initially not released. The German consular authorities were informed of the incident.

The Hoher Ifen: A Demanding Tour Destination

The Hoher Ifen is one of the most striking peaks in the Allgäu Alps and is a popular destination both for day hikes and for demanding mountain tours. Particularly the ascent via the south side requires concentration and is not suitable for inexperienced hikers.
