A 38-year-old paraglider from Germany was killed in an accident on the Planai in the Liezen district on Friday morning when her paraglider collapsed shortly after takeoff at the mid-station.

The woman took off shortly after 10:00 a.m. in the area of the mountain's mid-station in Schladming, according to the Styrian State Police Directorate. Immediately after takeoff in a right turn, the paraglider collapsed on one side, according to the investigations conducted so far and witness statements. The pilot subsequently lost control of her aircraft.

The paraglider crashed to the ground from a height of approximately 15 to 20 meters. First responders, including a doctor who happened to be present, immediately began resuscitation efforts. Despite the rapid deployment of the rescue services, the emergency physician aboard the rescue helicopter could only confirm the death of the 38-year-old.
