Fatal slide accident at Miramar: 25-year-old dies after rule violation

The 25-year-old was pulled unconscious from the water at the exit of the slide. Rescue workers and an emergency doctor immediately initiated first aid measures and took him to a hospital. He later died there from his injuries.

The pool staff initially classified the incident as a "normal" swimming accident. A police spokesperson told SWR: "The incident was only reported to us afterwards." Only later did the severity of the injuries become clear.

The criminal police have since taken over the investigation. On Thursday, Miramar handed over videos from the security cameras and other documents to the officers. A spokesperson for the pool said: "They received videos from the security cameras and other documents from us."

No technical defect – Criminal police investigating

The pool spokesperson was clear about a possible technical defect or misconduct by employees: "What is certain for us is: no technical defect, no misconduct by employees." The sliding speed is also not considered the cause of the accident, according to current knowledge.

According to Miramar, the slide is regularly inspected and operated in accordance with applicable regulations. The spokesperson stated that there are clear safety rules in the entire slide area. He did not provide any further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

Safety regulations and police investigation

The public prosecutor's office and the police are now examining whether and to what extent there was any criminally relevant behavior. The Miramar spokesperson emphasized that the staff usually only involve the police if a criminal offense has occurred, the technology has failed, or "something bigger" has happened.

The Miramar leisure pool in Weinheim in the Rhein-Neckar district is a regionally well-known fun pool with several slide facilities. The "Twister" is one of the pool's most popular attractions.
