A humanitarian doctor, considered the first known Ebola patient in France, has fully recovered and been discharged from the hospital, according to Health Minister Stéphanie Rist.
The physician has left the hospital and "returned home," the French Health Minister announced on Saturday. Rist spoke of a "sorti aujourd'hui de l'établissement de santé où il était pris en charge" and declared that the patient was "guéri". With this, the first known Ebola case on French soil is, according to the official reading, over.
According to the minister, the man had remained "peu symptomatique" and had received a "prise en charge médicale et d'un suivi strict". This combination of medical care and consistent monitoring made it possible for him to have reached "son domicile en toute sécurité". The case thus proceeded more mildly than numerous Ebola illnesses in the Central African outbreak regions.
