The German Weather Service (DWD) has classified July 2026 in Germany as significantly drier, sunnier, and warmer than the long-term mean. According to a preliminary balance from the DWD, temperature, sunshine duration, and precipitation deficit were noticeably above or below the reference values.
According to the DWD, this continues the trend toward hotter and drier summer months in Germany. The July thus joins a series of months that in parts of the country already suffered from pronounced drought.
Regional Differences and Consequences
There were also significant regional differences. In Brandenburg and parts of eastern Germany, the DWD recorded particularly large precipitation deficits and an above-average number of sunshine hours. Local authorities pointed to an increased risk of forest fires and low water levels.
