Innsbruck, 07 August 2026
Heat-related road surface damage on the Europabrücke of the Tyrolean Brenner Motorway (A13) has led to the closure of the first lane in the direction of Innsbruck, ASFiNAG announced.
Damage Pattern and Closure
On the Europabrücke of the A13, one of the most important alpine traffic sections in Tyrol, the first lane in the direction of Innsbruck has been closed since the morning of 7 August 2026. The reason is road surface damage that, according to ASFiNAG, is directly attributable to the ongoing heat. The motorway company announced repair work that is expected to take several days.
The Europabrücke spans the Wipptal at a height of around 190 metres and serves as a central connecting axis for north-south traffic on the Brenner Motorway between the Brenner Pass and Innsbruck. In previous hot summers, the surface on the bridge had already deformed, necessitating speed limits and lane closures. The current damage is part of this known susceptibility of the structure to thermal stress.
