Hiker in Tyrol falls ten meters and is rescued by boat

The operation once again demonstrated how important the coordination between mountain rescue, water rescue, and emergency medical services is in the region. During the summer months, the trails around Lake Achensee are heavily frequented, which increases the risk of accidents.

Also at Lake Achensee, operations occur time and again in which hikers slip on steep or narrow paths or lose their footing. The emergency services in Tyrol are prepared for such scenarios and regularly conduct joint exercises.

Investigations into the exact circumstances of Saturday's fall are ongoing. The police are trying to clarify, among other things, whether external factors such as wet conditions, loose rock, or a health problem of the hiker played a role.

According to reports, the woman came from the Netherlands and was in Tyrol for hiking. The authorities did not initially provide information about the current health status of the injured woman upon request.

The incident was disseminated via the Tyrol State Police Directorate and the news agency APA. The TV channel OE24 reported on the rescue operation at Lake Achensee in a live stream.

Lake Achensee lies at an altitude of about 929 meters and is the largest lake in the Austrian province of Tyrol. Its shores extend across the municipalities of Eben am Achensee and Pertisau, both of which belong to the district of Schwaz.

Tourists and locals are regularly reminded by the authorities to stay on marked trails and wear sturdy footwear. Especially in changeable weather, the ground can become slippery on rocky and gravel sections.

According to emergency services, the rescue across the lake was the fastest way to get the injured woman to a hospital. Boats from the water rescue service are regularly used for such transports in the Lake Achensee area.
