A group of gold prospectors has been trapped inside a cave in Laos' Xaisomboun province since May 19 after heavy monsoon rains flooded the entrance, triggering a complex international rescue operation.

The miners were reportedly searching for gold inside the cave near Longchaeng when torrential downpours caused water levels to rise rapidly, blocking their exit. Local authorities were alerted after family members reported them missing.

The exact number of people trapped remains unconfirmed, though initial reports suggest a small group of local miners. Communication with the group has not been established, and their condition is unknown.

The remote location in mountainous Xaisomboun province has complicated rescue efforts. Roads to the site are narrow and have been damaged by the same heavy rains that flooded the cave.
