Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced on Sunday evening that he would nominate chess grandmaster Judit Polgár for the office of President, after his predecessor Tamás Sulyok had been removed through a constitutional amendment.

The Hungarian Parliament is now required to decide on the succession at the head of state within the next 30 days in a secret ballot. "Zuständig ist dafür das Parlament, das in den nächsten 30 Tagen in geheimer Abstimmung über die Personalie entscheiden muss," according to the reporting. Until the election, the former Speaker of Parliament Ágnes Forsthoffer of Magyar's Tisza Party will conduct the affairs of office on an acting basis.
