Vienna, 19 August 2026
The inflation rate in Austria fell to 2.8 percent in July 2026, driven primarily by sharply lower electricity prices.
As Statistik Austria announced on Wednesday, the rate of price increases in July stood at 2.8 percent, below the previous month's figure. Compared to June, this represented a decline of 0.3 percentage points. Compared to the previous month, consumer prices fell by 0.2 percent, according to the data.
Electricity prices as the main dampener
The main reason for the decline was again energy prices, above all electricity. As Statistik Austria Director General Manuela Lenk explained, electricity prices dampened inflation by minus 10.4 percent with roughly the same strength as recently.
