Vienna, 17 July 2026
Inflation in Austria eased to 3.2 percent in June 2026, according to data from Statistik Austria, after reaching 3.7 percent in May.
The rate of price increases in Austria fell to 3.2 percent in June 2026. This is according to the final data from Statistik Austria, which simultaneously confirmed the flash estimate from early July. Compared with the previous month of May, this represents a decline of 0.5 percentage points. The rate of price increases therefore remains significantly elevated.
Energy as the main price dampener
As the main reason for the easing price pressure, Statistik Austria Director General Manuela Lenk cited developments on the energy markets. „Ausschlaggebend für den nachlassenden Preisdruck war der deutlich geringere Preisauftrieb bei Treibstoffen und Heizöl“, said Lenk. Compared with the previous month, fuels fell by an average of 6.1 percent.
At the same time, Lenk urged caution in the overall assessment. The rate of price increases lies „nach wie vor auf deutlich erhöhtem Niveau“. Food prices also rose less sharply than recently. „Auch Nahrungsmittel verteuerten sich weniger kräftig als zuletzt“, explained the head of Statistik Austria.
