The Iranian leadership is planning the funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in February, for July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad, as Iranian state television reported on Saturday.

Mourning ceremonies in Tehran and Qom

After Khamenei's death, the Iranian authorities immediately announced a major state funeral. However, the burial originally planned for March was postponed to an indefinite date a few days later because of the war. With the announcement of the new date by state television, the ceremonies are now taking concrete shape.

According to the information, the mourning ceremonies will begin on July 4 in the capital Tehran and last three days. On July 7, another mourning ceremony is scheduled in the holy city of Qom. The conclusion will be the burial on July 9 in Mashhad, the northeastern hometown of Khamenei.
