Human rights organizations and opposition groups report that Iran has executed activist Schahram Sadeghi in Misan province after accusing him of spying for Israel.
The execution was carried out on Saturday at Misan prison, after a court had previously sentenced Sadeghi to death for alleged espionage on behalf of Israel. Activist groups documented the procedure and spread the news through social media and opposition channels. According to available reports, the family had not been officially informed before the execution.
Human rights organizations such as the Vienna-based Iran Human Rights Documentation Group and the Organization of Iranian Kurdistan based in the USA sharply criticize the actions of the Iranian judiciary. They accuse the Iranian authorities of regularly using charges such as espionage, acts against national security, or armed insurgency to suppress and silence political opponents.
