Kaunertal Glacier Road to be Open to Traffic Again from Tuesday Following Mudslides

According to authorities, the heavily damaged road will be open to traffic again from Tuesday morning. This means that an important connecting artery in the tourism-dominated Tyrolean Oberland, which also leads to the glacier ski area at the end of the valley, is once again accessible.

According to APA, municipal officials had already pointed out on Sunday that the power grid "bereits seit Sonntagmittag wieder hergestellt worden" sei. This means that supply for the affected households and businesses in the rear Kaunertal is once again secured.

Pitztal Road Also Severely Affected

Christian Kalsberger had described the situation in his municipal area over the past few days. Around 1,000 residents of various districts of St. Leonhard were affected by the impacts of the storms.

In addition to the Kaunertal Glacier Road, the Tyrolean Pitztal Road (L16) was also severely affected last week by the heavy storms and, as a result, by mudslides. While the glacier road is now gradually reopening, the situation on the Pitztal Road remains noticeably more tense.
