SPD chief Lars Klingbeil has expressed fundamental openness to relief for citizens and businesses, but tied this to the condition of reliable offsetting financing.

In the debate over tax and levy relief, SPD chief Lars Klingbeil explicitly signals a willingness to engage in talks. The prerequisite, however, is that the measures be solidly offset by financing, so that the federal budget is not additionally burdened.

The Union has been attacking Klingbeil for days. From the ranks of the CDU and CSU, there has been repeated criticism of the proposal, which, according to the critics, either puts further pressure on public finances or does not reach citizens to a sufficient extent.
