The Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf will announce the verdict on Monday against the 36-year-old Syrian Mahmoud M., who is accused of having critically injured four people with a knife in front of a bar in Bielefeld in May 2025.

The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office accuses the defendant of four counts of attempted murder and has requested the maximum sentence: life imprisonment, a finding of particular severity of guilt, and subsequent preventive detention. The defense pleaded for a twelve-year prison sentence, citing the man's difficult childhood and a depression diagnosed by a psychiatric expert.
