Linz, 21 October 2026

The Linz Westring motorway A26 will, according to Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) and Günther Steinkellner (FPÖ), become another 120 million euros more expensive and is therefore expected to cost around 1.3 billion euros.

The Linz Westring motorway (A26) is becoming even more expensive than planned. Costs are expected to rise by 120 million euros to a total of 1.3 billion euros, as Günther Steinkellner (FPÖ) and Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) announced in a joint press release on Wednesday. This raises the budgeted framework for the long-controversial infrastructure project once again.

According to the press release, the A26 is a "4,7 Kilometer lange Autobahn". On this comparatively short stretch, costs thus accumulate to a very high amount per kilometre – a circumstance that is likely to re-ignite the debate about the project in Upper Austria in the coming weeks.
