Deutsche Lufthansa has withdrawn its profit outlook for the current fiscal year and now expects a decline in group earnings.

Background: From an optimistic outlook to a forecast correction

Deutsche Lufthansa has withdrawn its profit outlook for the current fiscal year and is telling investors to expect a decline in operating earnings. When presenting its latest quarterly figures, the group pointed to higher costs, a weaker booking trend in several core markets, and a delayed recovery in the business travel segment.

Most recently, Lufthansa had still been expecting a significant rise in earnings. Now, revenues are expected to stagnate, while expenses — particularly for kerosene, personnel, and maintenance — are increasing at the same time. The group also pointed to higher burdens from increases in government aviation taxes in several European markets, which are affecting ticket prices.
