Leipzig, 30 June 2026
After a multi-day suspension due to extreme heat, the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) put a first section of tram line 1 in Leipzig back into service on Monday evening and is working at full speed on cleaning the approximately 300-kilometer-long track network.
Background to the heat damage
The Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) announced on Tuesday that more than 50 employees have been on duty day and night since Saturday evening to clean the trams and remove stuck joint sealant from switches and tracks. The cause was a heat wave that on Saturday reached widespread temperatures of up to 40 degrees in Saxony. Interior temperatures in the vehicles rose to over 45 degrees, which is why passenger service was no longer possible.
