A representative poll commissioned by the Sozialverband VdK has found that 57 percent of respondents in Germany want additional rules for e-scooter use, with the Bundestag set to debate a liability bill in first reading on Thursday.

The survey, conducted by the opinion research institute YouGov between 23 and 26 January 2026, asked 2,234 people over the age of 18 about their attitudes toward e-scooter regulation. The results show broad support for tighter controls, with 21 percent of respondents saying they would like 'significantly stronger' regulation and a further 36 percent backing 'somewhat stronger' measures, such as fixed parking zones for the vehicles. According to the poll, 18 percent of those surveyed went further and said they supported a complete ban on e-scooters.
