Frastanz, 07 September 2026

During the night leading into Sunday, a marten triggered a short circuit at the Frastanz substation in the district of Feldkirch and temporarily disconnected around 8,000 households in Vorarlberg from the power grid.

The incident occurred at around 11:50 p.m. at the Frastanz substation, as reported by the APA news agency, citing the grid operator Illwerke-VKW. According to the company, the animal entered the area of a large transformer and triggered a short circuit there. As a result, part of the regional supply network was shut down to prevent further damage.

According to Illwerke-VKW, around 8,000 households were affected by the outage, spread across several towns in the district of Feldkirch and in the Walgau. In addition to Frastanz itself, parts of the municipality of Nenzing as well as households in Feldkirch, Bludenz and the wider surrounding area were temporarily without power. Response teams from the grid operator began searching for the fault and gradually restoring supply immediately after the disruption.
