The congestion was not limited to the Gotthard Tunnel. In Tyrol, travelers on the A12 Inntal Autobahn faced 30 kilometers of stop-and-go traffic, with similar delays reported on the Brenner Autobahn.

By 8:30 AM, traffic from Kufstein on the A12 intensified, leading to jams between Wattens and Volders. Defective vehicles and minor accidents on the German A8 caused hour-long delays between Siegsdorf and Walserberg.

Florian Thaler, a traffic advisor for ÖAMTC, reported live from the A10: 'Aus Deutschland kommt allerdings noch ordentlich was nach.' He predicted peak congestion between 11 AM and 12 PM.

Regional Traffic Impacts

In Carinthia and Styria, delays were also severe. The Karawanken Tunnel (A11) saw waits of around 45 minutes, while the Spielfeld border crossing (A9) had delays of 30 minutes.

Despite the chaos, the A10 Tauern Autobahn remained surprisingly calm compared to previous years, with only minor delays reported.

The TCS and ÖAMTC provided regular updates on traffic conditions, urging travelers to plan ahead and consider alternative routes. However, with congestion widespread, options were limited.
