ÖAMTC warns of traffic jams on southern transit routes – Tauern Motorway and Karawanken Tunnel affected

Current situation on the Tauern Motorway

The warning primarily affects travelers heading south over the Alps this weekend. Before the Karawanken Tunnel (A11), which provides the connection to Slovenia, the ÖAMTC mobility information observes slow-moving traffic and delays of more than one hour. In the adjacent sections in Carinthia, there is also slow traffic, according to the information.

ÖAMTC advises drivers to avoid the mentioned routes if possible or to plan alternative routes. Those who are nevertheless dependent on the affected sections should allow sufficient time, water, and breaks. According to the club, the current situation may worsen further on Sunday due to additional travel movements.

Bottlenecks in Tyrol and on the Brenner route

In addition to the main transit routes via the A10 and A11, ÖAMTC also points to known bottlenecks along the B179 in Tyrol as well as in the region around Reutte-South and Nassereith. Based on experience, these road sections are among the sensitive points in cross-Alpine traffic and can become additionally congested during high travel volumes.

The A13 Brenner Motorway, which also counts among Austria's central north-south connections, is highlighted in the current warning. Travelers heading from the Inntal toward Italy must also expect delays. ÖAMTC recommends checking current traffic reports before starting their journey.
