In the first quarter of 2026, 8,011 people were injured and 67 persons were killed on Austria's roads, with the number of injured trending upward since 2020.

Statistics Austria announced on Wednesday that from the beginning of January to the end of March 2026, a total of 8,011 people were injured in traffic accidents nationwide. Compared to the same period the previous year, that is about 220 persons more. Since 2020, the number of injured in the first quarter has trended upward.
The most injuries were recorded in Upper Austria with 1,573 persons, followed by Lower Austria with 1,540 injured. Lower Austria also recorded the highest number of traffic fatalities among the federal states, with 24 killed. The remaining federal states showed lower figures, including Vienna, Salzburg, and Burgenland.
