NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed in Brussels on Wednesday that the United States will in future make fewer military resources available under NATO command for deterrence and defense.

Rutte said the adjustment was part of a review of the division of labor in the area of conventional forces. "They had reviewed the division of labor in the area of conventional forces and see that the European allies and Canada are ready, willing, and able to do more," the NATO Secretary General explained. The US cuts are taking place within the so-called NATO Force Model, the framework by which the alliance determines which member states provide which capabilities and how quickly.
