The Women's Center of the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) in Vienna-Favoriten has presented a new brochure that specifically targets girls with migration backgrounds.
The publication was unveiled on Monday in Vienna and is aimed at adolescents from around the age of twelve. According to the ÖIF, the brochure addresses topics such as identity, family, friendship, school, and dealing with conflicts. The goal is to provide girls with knowledge and confidence so they can shape their everyday lives in Austria on their own terms.
The brochure also addresses sensitive points directly. For example, it addresses cases in which girls are pressured to wear a headscarf. It provides clear guidance on this: if a girl sticks with her decision to continue wearing the headscarf after such a conversation, this is followed first by a discussion with the school management and notification of the parents. In the event of repetitions, the education directorate and, where appropriate, child and youth welfare services are brought in.
