Paraglider from the Netherlands Gets Stuck in Tree Crown on the Gaisberg

The alerted emergency services set out at midday on Wednesday to rescue the paraglider stuck at a dizzying height. The rescue operation on the Gaisberg proved complex, as the pilot was unable to descend on his own or reach safe ground from the tree under his own power.

According to the operation leader, the mountain rescuers rappelled down to the man and secured him professionally. The Dutchman was then brought safely to the ground with the help of high-angle rescue equipment. The incident occurred in the Guggenthal district of the municipality of Koppl, only a short distance from the city limits of Salzburg. The emergency services were quickly on site after the alarm was raised, as the scene of the accident was located in an easily accessible area of the mountain.
