The European payment service Wero has barely gained any customers in Germany three years after its launch and remains largely unknown among the population.
Low Awareness
The European payment service Wero continues to lead a niche existence in Germany. As a survey published on Friday by the opinion research institute Innofact on behalf of the consumer portal Verivox shows, around 78 percent of German citizens do not know Wero at all. Only about one in eight has already used the service, while the far larger share of the population relies on established offerings such as PayPal.
The background to the low adoption is, according to experts' assessment, above all the lack of acceptance in retail. As long as Wero can only be used in a few places, there is little incentive for consumers to engage with the offering.
