Poland has temporarily reduced the value-added tax on fuels; a liter of regular petrol cost on average the equivalent of about 1.66 euros on Thursday, according to industry observers.

The Polish government has temporarily lowered the value-added tax on fuels. Warsaw is thereby responding to rising prices at the pumps and to the start of the travel wave during the summer months. Industry observers put the savings for drivers at several cents per liter.

According to these observers' calculations, the average price for a liter of regular petrol on Thursday was the equivalent of about 1.66 euros. Poland thus remains below the level in many Western European neighboring countries. The difference is attributed primarily to the lower tax rate and the cheaper purchasing of the raw material.
