Prinzersdorf, 23 July 2026
A Railjet travelling from Vienna to Bregenz came to a standstill on Thursday, 23 July 2026, shortly after 14:15, immediately after Prinzersdorf station (district of St. Pölten, Lower Austria) due to a serious technical defect on open track, after which around 500 passengers were evacuated.
Background to the incident
According to the voluntary fire department of Markersdorf-Markt, the train stopped in the middle of the line and not at a platform. As a result, the around 500 passengers could not simply disembark, but had to be brought to safety under difficult conditions. The emergency services spoke of a "schwerwiegenden technischen Defekt auf freier Strecke" that had caused the standstill.
