Rodríguez Castro, grandson of former Cuban President Raúl Castro and security chief of the Cuban leadership, declared his willingness in exclusive interviews with USA Today to negotiate with US President Donald Trump over the future of Cuba.

The 42-year-old Rodríguez Castro, who holds no official state office and rarely appears in Cuban state media, formulated his position in a series of interviews with the US newspaper USA Today. He said he could negotiate with any person designated by the US government, but would prefer a direct conversation with Trump. "If the opportunity arises, I would like to discuss this directly with Trump," he was quoted as saying.
