Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche (CDU) has softened her controversial draft for the reform of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and now provides for a temporary transitional payment for small solar installations rather than an immediate end to subsidies.

The revised draft from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, which is available to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, provides that small solar installations with up to 25 kilowatts of installed capacity will no longer receive permanent subsidies. Instead, a reduced feed-in tariff is planned for up to 36 months as a transitional solution, before operators must switch to direct marketing. "Kleine Anlagen unter 25 Kilowatt installierter Leistung, insbesondere kleine Dach-PV, erhalten keine dauerhafte Förderung mehr", the ministry said.
