Severe floods and a landslide have killed at least 60 people in different parts of China, while around 130,000 people have been brought to safety and authorities warn of further rainfall.

According to official figures, 21 people died in a landslide near the city of Longnan in Gansu province in the northwest of the country. The region had been affected by heavy rain over the past days, which softened the slopes and set the earth masses in motion. Rescue teams were deployed to recover buried victims.

In southern China, exceptionally heavy rainfall triggered devastating floods in the Guangxi region. At least 39 people were killed there, according to authorities. The area around Hengzhou, which belongs to the megacity of Nanning, was particularly affected. Streets and residential areas were under water, and numerous homes were damaged.
