Heavy storms in Carinthia caused several traffic accidents and a building fire on Thursday, leading rescue services to respond to roughly 60 incidents across the state.
According to the provincial command, the bad weather began affecting roads in the Bezirk Spittal an der Drau during the afternoon. Klaus Stebal of the Landeskommando Kärnten said responders were called out around 60 times as storm cells swept across the region.
On the Drautal Straße (B100) near Oberdrauburg, a 60-year-old German motorcyclist was struck by a strong gust around 4:40 p.m. While a 55-year-old from Tyrol was passing the scene with his car and caravan, another powerful gust caught the trailer, spinning it around its own axis. The caravan then collided with a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old, who was hit by vehicle parts, thrown to the ground and injured. A 30-year-old German witness stopped and provided first aid.
