A major fire in a multi-story shoe factory in the eastern Chinese city of Jinjiang in Fujian Province has killed at least 28 people, as rescue operations continued at the scene.

A major fire at a shoe factory in the eastern Chinese province of Fujian has killed at least 28 people. According to the state news agency Xinhua, the fire broke out in a multi-story factory in the city of Jinjiang. Search and rescue efforts are still ongoing.

State broadcaster CCTV had initially reported that people were trapped at the fire site. Authorities in Fujian mobilized forces to treat the injured and manage the situation on the ground. The Ministry of Emergency Management and the national fire authority also dispatched a joint working group to the scene.
