The Spanish Interior Ministry has lifted the evacuation order for the towns of Valdemaqueda and Robledo de Chavela west of the capital Madrid with immediate effect, allowing around 50,000 affected people to return to their homes.

The Spanish Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday that the evacuation request for Valdemaqueda and Robledo de Chavela would be lifted "with immediate effect." This brings an end to one of the larger forced relocations that authorities in the Madrid region had ordered during the current forest fire season.

Situation in the Madrid Region

In recent days, emergency services and volunteer helpers have fought against several fires west of the capital. The relaxation of the evacuation is seen as a sign that the situation at the fire fronts has stabilized and that residents can safely re-enter the immediate danger zone.
