The top of the field is meanwhile dominated by Sam Burns. The American led after three rounds at 10 under par and headed out for the final round on Sunday afternoon north of Liverpool. Burns, who has not yet won a major title, is aiming for his first triumph at one of the four big tournaments in professional golf at Royal Birkdale Club.

Royal Birkdale Club is considered one of the classic links courses in England and has hosted the Open Championship several times. The constantly changing weather conditions on England's northwest coast – wind, rain, and the typical dune landscapes – pose particular challenges for the players. Located near Southport, the course is only a few kilometers from the Irish Sea.

Straka's Record Compared to 2023

Straka finished second at the 2023 British Open and has for years been one of the few Austrian players on the international professional tour. His performance this year falls short of expectations, even though he made the cut again and took home prize money.

The British Open is the oldest of the four major tournaments in golf and has been held since 1860. This year marks the 154th edition of the tournament. Alongside the US Open, the US PGA Championship, and the US Masters, the tournament is one of the most important competitions in professional golf.

Looking Ahead to the Final Round

On the final day, players are expected to face similarly difficult conditions as on the previous days. The wind on the English coast has already produced high scores and surprising turns in previous editions of the tournament at Royal Birkdale Club. The final round begins on Sunday afternoon and will decide who ultimately gets to receive the Claret Jug.

Sam Burns is the leader – a player who has already celebrated tournament victories on the PGA Tour but has not yet managed to win a major title.
