Germany's Federal Drug Commissioner Hendrik Streeck presented the number of drug-related deaths in Germany for the past year in Berlin on Tuesday, pointing to a new record high in deaths caused by synthetic drugs.

Streeck referred to new statistics on fatalities linked to the consumption of synthetic drugs. "Mit 2.150 habe es im vergangenen Jahr einen Höchstwert gegeben", according to a report broadcast on 07.07.2026 on the Deutschlandfunk program.

In the previous year, 2024, 2,137 people in Germany died as a result of their drug use, according to the Federal Drug Commissioner. This means the total number of drug-related deaths remains at a high level, even though the increase compared to the previous year is moderate.
