Vienna, July 10, 2026

With the start of the holidays in Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland on Friday, July 10, 2026, ASFINAG expects heavy holiday traffic and, in some cases, massive delays on the major north-south transit routes in Austria.

The kickoff on Friday is made by students from Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland; from July 11, 2026, the remaining federal states will follow. According to ASFINAG, "starkem Reiseverkehr und Verzögerungen" is to be expected especially on the important transit routes. More than 200,000 students at more than 1,000 school locations throughout Upper Austria have already received their report cards.

These Routes Are Particularly Affected

According to ASFINAG, particularly affected are the A1 West Autobahn, the A9 Pyhrn Autobahn, the A10 Tauern Autobahn, the A12 Inntal Autobahn, the A13 Brenner Autobahn, as well as the greater Vienna area – especially on the city exits heading south. Delays are also likely on the A11 Karawanken Autobahn before the Karawanken Tunnel and on the A12 before the Lueg Bridge near the Brenner.
