In a YouGov survey of 2,230 respondents, 66 percent said that the record heat in Germany is connected to climate change, while 24 percent denied this.

Background: Record heat in summer

The heatwave from mid-June with record temperatures is estimated by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) to have cost around 5,100 people in Germany their lives. Against this backdrop, the opinion research institute YouGov surveyed the population on whether they see the extreme temperatures as a consequence of global warming.

The question of whether such heat phases have anything to do with climate change was answered affirmatively by 66 percent of the 2,230 respondents nationwide. A large majority sees a connection with global warming. Another ten percent answered with "don't know," while 24 percent are of the view that it has nothing to do with climate change.
