Taiwan's coast guard dispatched more than five ships to waters east of the island on Sunday after four Chinese state vessels were spotted in Taiwanese territorial waters, having previously departed from the port city of Xiamen.
Background
Taiwan's coast guard stated on Sunday that the deployment was an "appropriate" response to a Chinese "security operation." A total of four Chinese state vessels had been spotted in Taiwanese waters, the coast guard added. These had set sail from the southeastern Chinese port city of Xiamen. Taipei subsequently dispatched more than five ships to "assist in monitoring."
