Cuba was hit by a nationwide blackout on Monday for the third time within roughly a week; the Ministry of Energy posted on the platform X: „Es hat eine vollständige Trennung des Stromsystems gegeben".
The renewed interruption of the power supply occurred on Monday according to the Ministry of Energy and, according to official information, once again affected the entire country. The ministry spoke in its statement of a „vollständige Trennung des Stromsystems" and announced it would be working at full speed to restore service. No concrete information on the cause or the expected duration of the outage was initially available.
It is already the third nationwide blackout in roughly a week. In the days prior, there had repeatedly been extensive power outages that significantly disrupted public life, local transportation, and the supply of drinking water. The government had repeatedly pointed in the past to the dilapidated power grid and a lack of foreign currency for urgently needed investments.
