Japanese automotive group Toyota announced it will build a new plant in San Antonio, Texas, for $3.6 billion and shift part of its truck production from Mexico to the United States. The facility is to be built on the existing production site in San Antonio and begin operations by 2030, the company said.
According to the group, the project is expected to create around 2,000 jobs. It represents a significant course correction: Toyota only relocated production of the Tacoma model from San Antonio to Mexico in 2020. Now, part of the manufacturing is being brought back to the United States, it said.
