US President Donald Trump has threatened Iran with the destruction of key infrastructure such as bridges and power plants through targeted airstrikes if international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz continues to be disrupted.

The threat came against the backdrop of ongoing tensions in the Persian Gulf. Trump made clear that he would take extremely harsh action in the event of further impairments to shipping in the strategically important strait. Specifically, he named the destruction of important Iranian infrastructure such as bridges and power plants as possible targets.
